A CBC performance level and a KCSE mean grade are not the same kind of number — and neither is any other pair of scales a school runs side by side. Msomi lets you define each as a separate grading system and attach it to the levels it applies to, so none of them get mixed.
Grade ranges are configuration. If the school revises its boundaries or its pass mark, the change applies to reporting without anyone touching a single learner's raw mark.
Each grade range carries its own remark and points value, so report cards, merit lists and analytics all describe a result the same way.
Assessment is where school management systems most often impose somebody else’s assumptions. A system that hard-codes an A at 80 and a pass at 50 is useless to a school that grades differently, and worse than useless to a school running two curricula with genuinely different scales.
In Msomi a grading system is a named object you define. Inside it, grade ranges specify a lower and upper bound, the grade awarded, the points it carries and the remark that should appear. Bands group ranges into broader categories where a school reports at that level. A pass mark is set per system.
Systems are then attached to the levels they apply to, within a framework. That attachment is what stops a CBC performance level from being averaged with a KCSE mean grade, and what allows a school to change its boundaries for one section without disturbing another.
