By the upper years of school, learners are the people best placed to manage their own deadlines — and the people least often given the information to do it.
The student portal gives a learner their own timetable, their assignments with due dates, their results across the term, their attendance record and their library loans. It is a deliberately narrow view: their own record, nothing else.
The effect is mostly on accountability. A learner who can see that three assignments are outstanding and that their attendance has slipped is in a position to do something about it before a report card says so.
